This summer my boys have had a lot of fun with learning more about coding with Pitsco Education’s Code Cube Single Kit. They love every chance they get to learn more about technology and coding. Our experience with the Code Cube has provided fun projects and STEM learning experiences for them.
The Code Cube
First of all, you may be think what in the world is a code cube? The Code Cube from Pitsco Education is exactly what it sounds like: A small cube that you can input code into. The cube easily connects to your computer via a usb cable. (The same cable is used to charge the device as well.) Pitsco provides an app that runs easily through your internet browser. Therefore, there is no need to download a separate app onto your computer. When you open your box with your Code Cube, the simple direction to go to the Pitsco Code Cube App website was right there.
When connected kids can use the matrix provided to input pre-made designs like Smiley’s, airplanes, hearts, or monsters into their code cube, or they can get creative and design their own picture. It also has the ability to add simple animations, direction sensors, and sounds. After kids input code and design their code cube the way they want it, they disconnect it and slide it onto wearable slap bracelet band provided. The band is a comfortable grey silicone material that was very secure that will fit anyone. Kids can show off their designs and animations they created, or use it to play simple games.
Fun with the Code Cube
My boys (8 and 10 years old) were so excited to get the Code Cube. When we got it they immediately opened it and connected to to the computer! I didn’t even have time to look at the instructions before they had seen the website on the box. They immediately connected the cube correctly, when to the correct website and started experimenting with the code app completely by themselves. I love that this device is simple enough for them to use independently.
After their first experiment, I opened the Pitsco Education website and found the tutorial videos and resources for the code cube. My boys also watched these videos on their own and learned how to complete more advanced projects on their code cube. The video tutorials were easy to understand and follow along with. They loved learning how to put the sounds and animations into their code cube. My art loving son also loved that he could design his own pictures to put on his code cube. They also loved wearing it and showing it off their designs to a few friends.
Our family found Pitsco Education’s Code Cube to be a fun educational toy. I could see boys and girls alike could have fun programming and learning more about coding through the Code Cube. It is easy to use and we had no problems using the device. The device goes to sleep and doesn’t stay on continuously. Therefore we have found the battery to last for a long time. We also have enjoyed the resources that Pitsco Education provides with the Code Cube to ensure that we take advantage of all it’s capabilities. My kids only complaint is that we only have one of them!!
