My boys and I were thrilled to have an opportunity to read another book from David C Cook this month! We received The Easter Storybook just in time to enjoy it together this spring. My boys and I have enjoyed reading this book together in our morning Bible time. Through it we have been able to learn more about Jesus and celebrate together what Jesus did for us this Easter.
All about The Easter Storybook
The Easter Storybook is a collection of 40 Bible Stories that show who Jesus is. First of all this would be a wonderful book to add to your home library. It is hardcover and with a beautifully illustrated cover on the front and back. With 40 stories (one for each day), this book from David C Cook is a great resource to study the life of Jesus in the weeks leading up to Easter Sunday. Each day’s story tells a small part of the life of Jesus, beginning with Jesus as a Child. The stories continue through Jesus’s death on the cross, resurrection, and ascension.
Each of the stories are easy for children to understand. The author, Laurie Richie, takes what was written in the Bible and rephrases it in simple language. She writes so that even young children can relate to and understand the life of Jesus. Each story has a beautiful illustration that your kids will love. The stories each start with a Bible verse relating to the story. The author also gives the scripture references for where each day’s story comes from. After the story there is a question or two to expand on what you read and help your children apply the story to their lives.
How we enjoyed The Easter Storybook
My children and I have enjoyed reading these stories together. The language is written so that it includes even very young children in a daily study of Jesus’s Life. My 5 year old loves the pictures and the length is perfect for him to listen and stay focused for the entire story. Furthermore, because of the addition of the scripture verse and the questions at the end of each story, my 8 and 10 year old sons learn as well. They do not feel the book is too young for them at all. I find it is an appropriate book for the whole family.
I have also found that the reading level is excellent for elementary kids to be able to read it themselves. My 8 year old has enjoyed being able to read the story out loud to his brother. Therefore, you could easily let some older elementary students go through this study each day independently. My family however, is currently doing this study together. We will continue reading each day’s story all the way up until Easter Sunday. I have enjoyed having this resource to help my children learn more about the life of Jesus and celebrate how He died for us and rose again.
If you are looking for a daily devotional storybook to read with your kids this Easter, I highly recommend The Easter Storybook from David C Cook.
