I love having the opportunity to try new teaching and learning methods in my homeschool. Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool has given our family a chance to try memorization in a new way. We have enjoyed exploring this new tool and am looking forward to continuing to incorporate it into our homeschool days.
Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool is a classically based resource that provides you with 4 different year long cycles full of songs, videos, and quizzes. These songs help your children memorize and learn scripture, history, geography, science, math, grammar and more. Their goal is to provide homeschool families with a tool to help build a strong foundation of knowledge.
The Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool is sooo easy to use! You can easily access the cycles through your web browser or, even better, through their Apple TV, Fire TV, or Roku streaming channels on your tv. These streaming channels make it extremely simple to watch the videos and learn as a family. After you sign-up for an account with Cross Seven, it is very easy to download these channels and log in on your streaming device.
The only other set up involved is to create child accounts so your kids can earn badges for their memory work with the quizzes. You simply go to the parent dashboard and enter a name or nickname and age for each of your kids. It was easy to do and took very little time! Then just simply to decide where you want to start! For me that was the hardest part!
The 4 Cycles…
The Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool is divided in to 4 cycles. Each cycle includes a full year of Scripture, History, Geography, Science, Latin, Grammar, Math, Hymns, and Timeline memorization songs, videos and quizzes for each week. After you pick your starting point, you simple watch the weeks video as often as you can each day of the week. You and your kids will be learning the songs together. At the end of the week your kids can complete a quiz show what they have learned. When they complete the quizzes they earn badges online. The videos continue to build on the information learned through each cycle. Each of the songs is very short with the video showing picture representation of what your kids are learning. The tunes all vary, and are easy to follow and aid with memorization.
Do you have to work straight through the program?
You can easily choose to use parts of each cycle, mix things up, or simply work in the order that they are listed. It is flexible to work for many types of homeschooling families. If you are teaching with a strictly classical approach to learning this would be the perfect program to follow to guide the teaching and learning with your students. For example if you were doing a chronological History program starting with creation. You could easily start with Cycle 1 history week 1 and complete the videos along with any other reading or activities you wanted to do with the events in the timeline. However, you could also pick and choose areas that go along with curriculum that you are learning to help your kids with memorization.
How we used this program in our Home
I found this program very easy to incorporate into our homeschool days. Being the end of the school year I wanted to try out several different parts of the program that would compliment the curriculum that we had already been working through. For this past month we explored a lot of the different songs and video’s throughout the cycles. My 6 year old had fun perusing them and learning new facts from the songs. However, we focused mainly on using the geography program to brush up on our continents and oceans, and the begin to learn the 50 states and countries in different parts of our world. The early cycle one videos quickly helped my 6 year old learn the oceans and continents. These videos were also beneficial to reinforce and remind my older kids of these basic geography facts.
When then switched over to Cycle 3 to focus on US Geography to go with our curriculum this year. This cycle provides excellent songs and videos to help memorize US geographical features and the states and capitols. We will continue using these video as we study US geography and History in our homeschool.
More Learning Songs we enjoyed…
Although we didn’t start using any of the other programs fully before we started our summer schedule, we enjoyed looking through all the cycles and videos to see what they offered. I am very excited about the scripture memory tools next semester. Cycle 1 alone offers songs to help memorize the 10 commandments, Philippians 2:1-11 and Psalm 23. The rest of scripture cycles offers songs to memorize single verses, and whole Psalms and chapters of the Bible. It is going to be an excellent addition to our morning Bible time.
My youngest was particularly excited about the science videos. He enjoyed watching and learning names of stars and systems in the astronomy cycle. This has been and will continue to be a great way to introduce more facts to my youngest child while my older two children work in more in-depth courses in science.
